The Road to Maine is Bloody Part 36

Ashley held her breath she didn’t know how long until it felt like her lungs would explode and let it out in a big gasp. Her hand felt cramped from holding the flashlight so tightly and turn it on once again and followed him down the path he’d taken. She had no idea how long she’d been walking and thought about giving up and going back but then she found herself in a small clearing. The tall pines surrounded it in a large circle and small creatures could be heard scurrying around in the darkness.

The clearing revealed a puzzle. Four different paths, all identical loomed in front of her and Ashley looked at each one, trying to decide which one to take, then the decision was made for her. Ashley heard music coming from in front of her, the only path leading straight ahead and started across the clearing. Thorns scratched her hands and legs, walking through the thick brush. The path wasn’t wide enough really for a person to walk through easily.

The music kept getting louder as she walked and Ashley could see a faint white light through the trees. The song she heard playing was Turbo Lover by Judas Priest. Somehow the song sent shivers down her spine. Out here in the woods in the middle of nowhere the song seemed ominous. For a brief second she thought it sounded like the song she’d be hearing when she met her death. “You won't hear me, but you'll feel me. Without warning, something's dawning, listen. Then within your senses, you'll know you're defenseless. How your heart beats, when you run for cover.” The words for some reason haunted the very core of her soul then the music suddenly stopped and the light she saw ahead went out and she froze, wondering if she’d been spotted.

Ashley couldn’t see a thing, she wasn’t close enough to make out what it was where the light was coming from and stood still for what seemed like an eternity. Hearing a door open, Ashley ducked behind a tree in case he could see her. Then she saw a small round glow and figured out he’d lit a cigarette. Her eyes had finally adjusted to the darkness and she could see his shadowy figure standing in front of what appeared to be a building and saw clouds of smoke billowing up in the air.

Ashley stayed behind the tree watching & heard a voice and from nowhere, another figure appeared in the doorway and she could faintly see it was a man of about the same height as Stephen.
