“Once he’s gone through, I can’t change that because he’s in the
real world now and the hole is only in the book.” He told her, wishing in his
mind he’d never written that book. He picked up the book and looked at the pages.
Ashley bit her lip, chewing on it, then smiled. “How about you
write it where the hole is open in the present, the time we’re in now? Then
send Pennywise back where he belongs. Write it where you find it when you go
for that same walk you took in the book to see if it really exists and when you
do, you see it?”
Stephen grinned, pushing his glasses up on his nose with his
index finger. “That’s an idea Ashley but not sure it’ll work. I’ll try though
okay? In the meantime, let’s not think about it and come out with me and Tabby
for dinner.” Ashley agreed and Stephen put the book down and they left the room
to go downstairs.
It was the first time since getting out of the hospital that
Ashley had been out and she was looking forward to being somewhere other than
being stuck in bed and she put all thoughts of Pennywise out of her mind as the
three of them left the house.
After they left, the book Stephen had put on the bed opened up,
the pages fluttering open when the wind came through the open window and then
rested, opening to the last page in the Chapter Stephen had written when he put
the book aside and wouldn’t pick up until years later after the killings began.
“Stephen sat in front of the vanity mirror in his and Tabitha’s
room and looked at his reflection as he pulled off the hot rubber clown wig
with bright red hair. He opened the jar of cold cream and scooped some out,
rubbing it all over his face until it was saturated with the stuff. Then he
took a hand towel and started wiping off the heavy white make up, revealing his
normal skin. Once his face was clean, he pulled off the rubber nose and stood
up, stripping off the clown suit and grabbed the duffle bag under the desk and
stuffed it in the bag.”
“He walked into the bathroom, throwing the dirty towel stained
in bloody hand prints into the hamper. Then he began washing his hands, leaving
no trace of Ashley’s blood on his fingers.”
